THE GREATNESS OF CHRISTIANITY

“Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet and Light Unto My Path” ~Psalm 119:105

God does not leave us alone.

Life was not a colossal, unexplainable accident!

His Word lights our way. What does it reveal?

1. God Created the Heavens and the Earth and all life.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:1,2

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was light and the light was the light of men. (John 1:1-4)

“In many and various ways, God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1,2)

2. God teaches us the difference between truth and falsehood, and between good and bad.

“Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:11,12)

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare unto you the things that are to come.” (John 16:12,13)

“But the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord.” (II Chronicles 18:15)

“Oh Lord who shall sojourn in thy tent? Who shall dwell on thy holy hill? He who walks blamelessly, and does what is right, and speaks truth from his heart; who does not slander with his tongue, and does no evil to his friend, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor;” (Psalm 15:1-3)

3. Jesus teaches us to help other people.

No one loses their light when they share it with another!

“[Jesus] said also to the man who had invited him, When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors, lest they invite you also in return, and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the maimed, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” (Luke 14:12-14)

“Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (I Corinthians 4:4-7)

4. God gives us directions for a worthwhile life.

He has purpose for our lives. Our Heavenly Father looks out for our welfare – for our own happiness—and to be a help to others.

“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:20)

“For I know I have the plans for you says the Lord, plans for your welfare, and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me, and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places.” Jeremiah 29:11-14)

5. God makes us the best men and women.

They are the best because they love God, they study his word, they obey his teachings and are thoughtful and caring of others. I believe God sees the family as the building block of society. He teaches us to treat others the way we would have them treat us.

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Luke 6:31)

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…” (1 Corinthians 13:4)

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you…” (Luke 6:27)

6. He promises us an eternity in his presence.

Death will not destroy us.

“The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who is thirsty,  come – let him who desires, taste the water of life without price!” ( Revelation 22:17)

In God we find salvation, goodness, and hope.

“And this is the testimony – That God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may KNOW that you HAVE eternal life!” (1 John 5:11-13)

ENJOY that LIFE!

“No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.” (Luke 8:16)
