What does ‘Sovereign’ mean?

It means “Possessing supreme or ultimate power”.

If you want something done, you go to the BOSS, right?

Since God is the Creator of the Universe, He is the One in CHARGE.

He made all things: The Sun, seas, rivers, mountains, trees, flowers, animals and human beings.

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let thy glory be over all the earth!” (Psalm 57:11)

He reveals Himself through all creation. Even us.

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the earth proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)

Acknowledging His Ultimate Power, we can believe Him, trust Him, follow Him, and depend upon Him to guide us.

He gave us His promise.

“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.” (Proverbs 30:5)

Over the centuries people have been inspired to write down words given them by His Spirit. We are encouraged by the Holy Spirit within us as we read the sixty-six books of the Bible. We gain further insight by discussing what they reveal through fellowship with other believers.

We are dependent upon him.

Without His guidance, we can become confused, and can’t understand the meaning of life or know His love. But as we study the Bible He reveals his awesome power and shows us His will for good.

We owe him our lives, our energy, strength, hopes and desires.

As the author of our lives and being, He provides us with all we have.

How can we thank Him?

Through the Holy Spirit, He reveals how to live in Him. The Ten Commandments, the writings of the prophets, the teaching of Jesus Christ and the apostles remind us of His promises to help those who trust in Him, and the consequences of ignoring His loving guidance.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28

We are His children and He, our Heavenly Father. As a child without a father, so are we without the love and mercy of God. Many are lost, and doing great harm to themselves. This is not God’s will for us.

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Come back to God. Because He loves us, he has already provided the way. He sent His Son to bring us back to Him. We are forgiven of our sins. As we repent and seek to do God’s will, He heals us and assures us of eternal life.

“My sheep know my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27,28)

Thank Goodness, God IS sovereign. He IS the Boss!

Therefore, we respect and honor his authority. We adore him as we read the scriptures whole heartedly and follow his guidance.

Do not be overrun by those who disregard God and try to distract us from the truth. As we seek Him we will find joy, meaning and a worthwhile life.

“Preserve me, O God, for in thee I take refuge. I say to the Lord, Thou art my Lord; I have no good apart from thee.” (Psalm 16:1,2)
