The destiny for those who believe in Jesus Christ is not the grave! It is Heaven. Soon we will be celebrating the resurrection of our Saviour (27 March). His deliverance from the grave and death is the assurance that those who trust in him for salvation will, in like manner, enter a new life for all eternity. We need to remember the promises our Lord has given to us as we sometimes stumble along the way.
“Let not your hearts be troubled, believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” ~John 14:1-3
The apostle Paul knew that he was waiting execution by the Roman government, but he looked beyond that:
“Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteous which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.” ~II Timothy 4:8
So, in the meantime, what should we be doing? Our Lord instructs us:
“seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.” ~Matthew 7:33
We are to be growing in the grace of God.
“Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation, for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.” ~I Peter 2:2,3
We need to take note of John Wesley, George Whitefield, John Newton, Hannah More, William Wilberforce, Shaftesbury, and Gladstone (and many others) who were used of God to transform England and Scotland for 150 years. These people were students of the Bible, who applied its teachings to the way they lived their lives. God has something for each one of us, who believe in him, to help others to find life in Jesus Christ.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven an the first earth had passed away…Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more…” ~Revelation 21:1 & 3
Three dangerous criminals broke out of the Men’s Central Jail in Orange County the week of 25 January; Bac Duong, Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu. It appears that a teacher, Nooshafarin Ravaghi, helped them with their escape. She is accused of aiding their escape providing critical planning tools. I use her as an example of tens of thousands of others who live contrary with the teachings of scripture and refuse to be bound to God’s rules of righteousness and justice. If convicted, she will spend many years of her life in jail. Why do people do things like this when they could have read the Bible, believed in Jesus, and lived by the way our Savior teaches us? The scriptures teach,
“The way of the transgressor is hard.”
How much better to trust in Jesus, to have the Lord’s guidance in this life, and to know that you have an eternal future with your God!
