As we look forward to the new year, we should remember that Christianity is dynamic; in it we find new life. We are drawn by God to believe in him. We understand that Jesus Christ is our redeemer; that we are accountable for our sins, and that Jesus went to the cross for that very reason. He suffered for our sins. He paid the penalty that was our due. So we commit our lives to him. We find forgiveness and acceptance through Jesus Christ. We affirm our faith in him. We are baptized in his name. We rejoice in our salvation. Ours is a living religion. As we believe in Jesus Christ, we are to walk with him. We are to grow in his grace.
The book of Romans teaches us of our salvation in Jesus Christ. It further reminds us that we are to become the people that God would have us to be. The believer has the calling to align his or her life with the will and purposes of God. The Bible gives the name sanctification to the process of Christian growth. Believing in Christ, we belong to him. We are members of his family. We are brothers and sisters with all who believe in our Savior.
“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”~Romans 6:1-4
We are to grow in the grace of God, because he is preparing us to live with him for all eternity! Our destiny is with our Lord in heaven.
“And we all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” ~ II Corinthians 3:18
“…until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” ~ Ephesians 4:13,
As we look forward to the new year, let us look with confidence in our Savior that we will be growing in his grace. We are to be like a growing tree:
“He is like a tree planted by the streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers.” ~ Psalm 1:3
We can celebrate the New Year with the psalmist:
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” ~Psalm 27:1
THE CHRISTIAN DOES NOT SEE THIS LIFE AS THE END!
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him.” ~ I Corinthians 2:9
