“These things have I written to you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you HAVE eternal life…” I John 5:13

By Dr. Foster H. Shannon

Happy New Year! We are in the beginning of a new year, 2018. I hope that you will find these great passages of scripture in this Blog encouraging. [Note: the word man ordinarily refers to a male. However, it can also mean mankind, which includes male, female and children.]

Let us review the blessings of God:

The book of Ephesians teaches us the marvelous characteristics that God brings to us. This is like knowing that we have money in our bank account!

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who blesses us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless before him. He destined us in love to be his sons in Jesus Christ according to the purpose of his will to the praise of his glorious grace which he freely bestowed in us through the Beloved.” (Ephesians. 1:3-6)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world not to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16,17)

“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood to be received by faith. This was to prove God’s righteousness because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies him who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:21-27)

“A man is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ.“ (Galatians 2:16) “for if justification were through the law, then Christ died to no purpose.” (Galatians 2:21)

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace which he lavished upon us.” (Ephesians 1:7)

We must respond to the promises of God. We must confess our sins, knowing that in Jesus Christ we have forgiveness and new life.

“Let not your hearts be troubled, believe in God believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you unto myself, that where I am you may be also.” (John 14:1-3)

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)

“But our commonwealth is in heaven and from it we await a Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body by the power which enables him to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:30)

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is the God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant,” (Hebrews 12:22,23)

“My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me; and I give them eternal life and they shall never perish and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27,28)

“Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more,  for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3,4)
